Come enjoy sevens by the sea!

The Man v Fat Kent Cup returns for it’s fourth year! Proudly hosted by MAN v FAT Margate.

A one day, 7-a-side tournament with group games, followed by knock out stages.

Each game will be officiated by a third-party, FA qualified referee.

Unseeded groups, made up of equal teams, will compete against each other in the initial group stages.

After the groups, teams will proceed to the knockout stages, eventually resulting in the final showdown.

The winners take home the cup, winner’s medals and ultimate bragging rights.

The tournament will be hosted at Sandwich Leisure Centre on their FA approved 3G pitch.

Playing Questions

How large are squads?

Squads can have upto 12 players. This allows for 7-a-side and 5 substitutes.

Who is allowed to play?

Only active Man v Fat players (and coaches who meet eligibility criteria) are eligible to play. Players can only play in one team. At player check-in, players will be asked to show a form of ID.

How long are games?

16 & 20 team format
All games will be 15 minutes long, straight through.

12 team format
All games will be 18 minutes long, straight through.

Are there any special rules?

Games will be played in line with Man v Fat’s typical match rules.

Highlights include:

  • Rolling substitutes
  • Indirect free-kicks
  • All dead balls are indirect, except for penalties.
  • No direct pass backs
  • Keeper to roll or kick out below waist height
  • Kick-ins from sidelines
  • No slides
  • No offsides
  • No encroaching inside/outside the area

What footwear can I wear?

The playing surface is FA approved 3G. You may wear astroboots or moulds. No metal studs.

What colour top should I wear?

Please submit your team colour when registering. We will try to accommodate all colours. If there are any clashes, it’s recommended to bring an alternative colour top.

Are shin pads required?

Yes, shin pads are required. Those without shin pads will not be able to play.

How is the tournament formatted?

The tournament will be formatted depending on the numbers of teams that register.

12 Teams Registered

The teams will be split into 3 groups of 4. Each team will play all the other teams in their group. The top 2 teams from each group, as well as the overall two “best losers” will go through to the Kent Cup knockout stages. The four remaining teams will go through to the Kent Plate knockout stages.

The two “best losers” will be decided on the following factors, in order of priority:

  1. Highest score
  2. Best goal difference
  3. Most goals scored
  4. Head to head record (if applicable)
  5. Coin toss

Knockout stages for the Kent Cup will consist of quarter finals, semi-finals and a final.

Knockout stages for the Kent Plate will consist of semi-finals and a final.

16 Teams Registered

The teams will be split into 4 groups of 4. Each team will play all the other teams in their group. The top 2 teams from each group will go through to the Kent Cup knockout stages. The bottom 2 teams from each group will go through to the knockout stages of the Kent Plate. All teams progress to knockout stages, with the groups seeding the Kent Cup and Kent Plate.

In the result of a group finishing with teams on the same points, the positioning will be decided on the following factors, in order of priority:

  1. Best goal difference
  2. Most goals scored
  3. Head to head record
  4. Coin toss

Knockout stages will consist of quarter finals, semi-finals and a final.

20 Teams Registered

The teams will be split into 4 groups of 5. Each team will play all the other teams in their group. The top 2 teams from each group will go through to the knockout stages of the Kent Cup. Teams who finish 3rd and 4th will go through to the knockout stages of the Kent Plate. 16 out of 20 teams progress to knockouts.

In the result of teams finishing on the same points, the positioning will be decided on the following factors, in order of priority:

  1. Best goal difference
  2. Most goals scored
  3. Head to head record
  4. Coin toss

Knockout stages for the Kent Cup and Kent plate will consist of quarter finals, semi-finals and a final.

How are match points calculated?

  • A group stage win will earn 3 points.
  • A group stage draw will earn 1 point for each team.
  • A group stage loss will earn 0 points.

How much does it cost?

It is a flat cost of £180 per team. This covers the venue hire, referee fees, event medics, administration fees and player medals/trophy.

How do I submit a team?

Please complete the form on this website to submit your team. Your space is secured when your team fee has been paid.

After registering your team, you will be contacted by Margate’s MvF Coach.

Is there a team limit?

There is space for up to 20 teams to register and compete. It’s recommended to secure your team spot ASAP to avoid missing out.

Can my club submit 2 teams?

If you have the numbers, and secure your space, there are no limits on the amount of teams one club can submit. Players can only play for one team on the day.

Is there parking?

There is onsite parking, however spaces may be limited based on the amount of anticipated attendees. It’s recommended, where possible, to carpool.

What should I bring?

It’s recommended you bring:

  • A form of ID for player check-in
  • Shin pads
  • Appropriate footwear & kit
  • Team coloured top
  • Alternative top colour (if applicable)
  • Snacks
  • Plenty of fluids

Will there be food and drink?

Sandwich Leisure Centre sell drinks and basic snacks. A food truck and ice cream van will also be in attendance.

Are there changing rooms?

There are shared changing rooms. It is recommended to arrive in kit where possible, to avoid congestion.
